As we've operated in our native Japan since 1939, we've had many decades to consider the possibilities of expanding operations beyond our domestic borders. It goes without saying that, during this time and particularly in the last few decades, the global economy has evolved in ways no one could have predicted. This undoubtedly influenced the opportunities of Sumi's possibilities abroad as time progresses.
The opening of our first international office was therefore to be a major milestone for our business, and it was imperative that we have the utmost confidence in our decision. That of course meant finding a place where we felt we could provide the most value to the greatest number of organizations, but it also meant finding a place where we truly believed we could continue operating at the threshold of excellence to which we strive to hold ourselves.
Needless to say, our entrance into Malaysia is an exciting and monumental occasion for Sumi.
It's extremely important to the soul of our company to never stray from our core value of doing whatever is needed to ensure our customers' happiness, and to foster our customers' trust in us. This has been, and will continue to be, our guiding light, and we truly believe customer hyper-focus is something that produces success in any part of the world, in any period of humanity and regardless of the changing fashions of the times. We believe we can only exist if we make customers truly happy, so it's our constant challenge and joy to figure out how to do it best.
We are, of course, not at all delusional about what's ahead of us. Thanks to a few existing partnerships, we aren't complete strangers to Malaysia and the Malaysian way of doing things, and while we do expect an adaption period to our new business environment, we also understand that every potential customer we face has unique needs, situations and expectations. That's something that's true everywhere.
We are eager to learn the nuances of our new business world and each of the customers that may come with it. This, of course, cannot happen if we aren't completely dedicated to our customers.
Our dedication to our customers has helped us stay relevant through a rapidly-changing world from 1939 to today, and you can bet your bottom ringgit that we don't intend to stray from this course as we begin this new and important chapter of our company's story.
